TV Advertising Platforms – Marketing Videos – Video Production

TV Advertising Platforms – Marketing Videos

‘Face It!’ TV needs to evolve.
The average American spends nearly a third of their waking hours watching TV. This translates into roughly five times more than all social media activity combined. TV advertising platforms have a lot of potential if they can adopt some of Facebook’s most effective ideas.
  1. Personalized Experience. Facebook drives outstanding engagement while supporting precision and targeting. Having recently digitalized their infrastructure, TV platforms can do the same. This would allow to support individual user profiles, make better content recommendations and open the possibility of personalized advertising.
  2. Tangible Conversions. Facebook’s advertising products deliver tangible business outcomes including online purchases, lead form completions and more. By contract, TV platforms mostly sell brand awareness. To catch up, they should consider developing direct response ad products that allow viewers to take concrete actions using their remote control or a companion mobile app.
  3. Algorithmic Optimization. TV platforms can leverage the advances in AI that tech companies have made in recent years.  Over time with user profiles as a guide and conversion events as a goal, TV platforms’ algorithms will begin to show the right ads to the right people at the right time.
  4. Self-serve Ad Buying. Facebook allows you to get started for just a few bucks, pay with your credit card and even use Facebook’s simple DIY video maker. TV platforms must also eliminate barriers to entry by creating self-serve ad platforms that offer local ad campaigns for $1,000 or less. Additionally because lack of creative is the #1 barrier to entry, networks can help new advertisers produce commercials that will work for TV.

“Don’t read that tweet! Watch that tweet!”
Twitter’s new tool, “Timing Is Everything” uses historical data to highlight when users are most often watching and engaging with video on the platform. The tool offers an aggregate look at when Twitter users are generally watching videos on the platform. It does not offer publisher-specific insights on when their own organic followers watch.
While the tool is only giving a broad overview of video-consumption, it can be of service to publishers and brands and influencers with access to Twitter’s Media Studio. This will help them optimize video content by posting it when users are more likely to watch.
Publishers are encouraged to post throughout the day in order to maximize reach. However, a good strategy would be to post during the most engaging times of the day and week.

Why Video needs to go to market!
Now is the right time to make your first marketing video. Video marketers get 66% more qualified leads per year and achieve a 54% increase in brand awareness. Whether it be an explainer video, a vlog, a video interview or a tutorial video, adding video is sure to drive your business. Currently, mobile video and social video are two of the most effective forms video.

Mobile Video Marketing

Mobile marketing is all the rage. According to IAB, marketers increased their spending on mobile and digital video ads by 95% between 2014 and 2016.
  • According to YouTube, more than half of all YouTube video consumption is via mobile devices.
  • comScore says users spend 40 minutes a day, on average, watching YouTube on mobile devices.
  • Wyzowl says 90% of consumers watch videos on their mobile devices.
  • And Twitter says 90% of Twitter video views happen on mobile.

Social Video Marketing

As long as we have social media, we’ll likely have social video, too.
  • Mary Meeker’s 2016 Internet Trends report reveals that Facebook gets 8 billion video views daily and Snapchat has over 10 billion daily video views.
  • Twitter says video on Twitter is 6x as likely to be retweeted as photos.
  • DOMO’s Data Never Sleeps infographic shows that YouTube users share 400 hours of new video a minute.
Although most marketers see video as the most difficult content to create, it needs to be done in order to keep up with the evolution of media. These video marketing statistics show the importance of video marketing for your business, both now and in the future.

Gaining customer loyalty through video
When it comes to content marketing, video comes in at just number three on the list of type of content used. Although 72% of businesses say video has improved their conversion rate, a majority of businesses have yet to take advantage of this. One of the major reasons as to why businesses are not participating in video is the lack of creativity.
Type of videos that your viewers will enjoy:

Vlog

Vlogs, or video blogs, are cheap to produce, personality-driven and engaging. Instead of trying to come up with brand new content to create for your business, you could document your journey through a vlog. Vlogging is a great medium to share a daily journey because of how intimate it is and how easy it is to build a relationship with your audience.

Culture

Culture videos can be employee interviews, game days in the office, pranks, birthday parties, and everything in between. The goal is to show that your brand is personable. The easiest way to showcase your company’s personality is by showing a “behind the scenes” look at what goes on in your office and what your company culture looks like.
Interview
By inviting guests onto an interview series, you can leverage their knowledge to create your content for you. This will also bring positive brand association by inviting well known guests on your show. You could build more credibility with your own audience by associating yourself with other experts with positive reputations.
Webinar
Webinars are high-value, low-cost endeavors that require no scripts or actors, just a Rolodex and some Google Calendar invites. You can host Q&A sessions with clients, product demos with participating customers, or even roundtable interviews with thought leaders in the industry.
Event
Event videos bring the party to viewers who couldn’t make it and extend the reach of any single event exponentially. A great event video increases a brand’s online presence in a way that the live event itself cannot.

Animation

Animated videos are perfect for companies that have complex products and services that can be difficult to explain. This is why the most popular types of animated video are landing page explainer videos. They’re perfectly suited for product tutorials and business presentations. These videos explain exactly what your business does or how your product can make a business more efficient.

Behind-the-Scenes

People love businesses that seem like they’re “human” and less “money-making corporation.” Viewers can see your face, how you’re dressed, your body language, your tone of voice, sense your personality and more.

Live Streaming

Live-stream videos are becoming more and more popular. People love live videos for the same reasons they love to hear “breaking news” on TV and why we keep checking our Facebook feeds to see what our friends posted recently.

“Hey Pitcher. Throw the ball already!”

Major League Baseball recently announced its plan to reduce each national commercial break by 25 seconds. In a statement, MLB said it would look to speed up the pace of its games by limiting middle-inning and between-inning ad breaks. This would reduce the commercial time from 2:25 per interval to an even two minutes. A standard nine-inning game has 67 ads. However, with these changes it would bring it down to 50.
This would impact Fox and ESPN, which rely on the ad sales revenue to subsidize the expense of broadcasting MLB games. Fox’s “double-box” or split-screen ads has kept fans locked into the action during its “Thursday Night Football” and Nascar broadcasts. Fox has also made strides with augmented reality integrations with YouTube. Other measures must be taken to keep the ad dollars flowing under a shorter break structure include on-screen bugs, booth reads and special premiums.
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred believes that speeding up the game could go a long way toward winning back some of the Generation ADD crowd. But for these changes to be implemented, baseball must first finalize an agreement with Fox and ESPN. According to one insider, the terms of the existing pact with MLB prohibits the league from making any unilateral changes to the ad loads. Discussions on the matter are ongoing. While it appears that both sides will come to an agreement on the matter, no binding accord has been hashed out.

Facebook, Instagram go down across the United States in an apparent Facebook outage

Having trouble accessing Facebook or Instagram Wednesday afternoon? You weren’t alone.

The massively popular social network went down early afternoon with issues popping up across Facebook proper, Facebook Messenger and Instagram.

As has been down in past Facebook outages, users quickly headed to Twitter with the hashtag #facebookdown quickly becoming the top trending topic in the United States.

Downdetector.com, which monitors websites, showed the company experiencing issues across a large portion of the U.S. and Europe in addition to issues in other areas in South America and Asia.

It is not immediately clear what caused the Wednesday issue. Some users reported seeing a message saying the site was down for “required maintenance.”

USA TODAY has reached out to Facebook for comment and will update this story when they respond.

Facebook-owned WhatsApp did not appear to be immediately affected by the outage.

What are commercial videos?

A commercial video is a type of advertisement generally produced for television, social media, or other parts of the internet. It is meant as a teaser for your company, service, or product. It doesn’t go into the nuts and bolts, but rather offers your potential clients and customers a glimpse of what your company does. Generally speaking, these videos tend to be, at most, one minute long; however, optimally, commercials should be 30 seconds in length. This is the perfect amount of time to just draw your customers in and make them want to know more about what you are offering.

How should I use commercial videos?

In today’s social media dominated world, 30 second long commercial videos can be key to a brand’s success. BusyBoy Productions recommends that you opt out of televising your commercial broadcast due to the high cost and lower return on investment. Instead, you should focus your efforts on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Google and other media outlets. Digital marketing your video is so much more targeted. These platforms are continuously growing and are especially popular with younger demographics. Social media platforms are a great way to broadcast your commercial, but you will also need to invest marketing dollars in order for your commercial to gain traction. With enough effort, your commercial can go viral, but it won’t happen overnight.

How do we know if a commercial video campaign is successful?

Measuring the success of commercial videos is actually quite easy. Video count gives an excellent indicator of the extent to which the commercial is making inroads with your target audience. However, in order to get a significant amount of commercial views, you will have to allocate some of your budget to go towards promoting the video. After you achieve enough views, pay attention to your engagement levels. Your target engagement level should be somewhere between 80% to 90%+ of individuals who view the commercial.

Tips for Live Streaming Your Next Company Event

From corporate town halls to sales and marketing campaigns, live streaming of company events online is becoming the new ‘norm’ in today’s technology driven-society.

Streaming your company live event is a cost effective way to expand your audience reach, boost engagement and increase the overall ROI of your events. For example, when hosting a product launch through a live webcast, the marketing team can quickly build product awareness and reach customers or partners around the globe. The marketing team can also easily track attendee information and follow up with qualified leads.

However, without proper planning, live streaming an event can be stressful. Production hiccups or technical glitches are surefire ways to lose audience members. To ensure your next live event is a success, marketers should keep in mind the following best practices.

Require Event Registration

Creating a registration landing page for your event allows you to track hits, registrants and attendees. And with some webcasting platforms, can drive attendance by sending out automated confirmation to registrants, event reminders, thank you emails and information about future events.

Confirm Event Bandwidth Requirements

Thanks to technology improvements, it’s easier to stream events than ever before. However, the quality of your webcast network has a major effect on the quality of your streaming media. Before the event, talk with your IT team to determine the bandwidth requirements needed to effectively broadcast your event. Be sure to communicate the expected number of attendees and anticipated length of the event.

Conduct a Full Test Run of Your Event

On the day of your event, ensure your team has enough time to set up and test the equipment, especially any cameras and microphones. Run a full test ahead of the event, preferably at the venue where you plan to stream from. Marketers and IT pros should also keep an eye out for any sound, lighting, or encoder problems, and make sure there is a stationary background without doorways or windows.

Be Strategic in Timing

Determine where in the world most of your audience lives and schedule your event for a time they will likely be able to participate. In the US, for example, holding your webinar/webcast between 10am and 1pm CT makes for the best attendance by leveraging lunch hour viewership across several time zones. Also, keep in mind that live events can be recorded and made available on-demand, giving events a longer lifespan and greater return on investment. The on-demand link can be the same link used to register for the event, making it easily accessible to those attendees unable to attend the live broadcast.

Make Sure Your Event Content is Mobile Friendly

Compatibility is crucial to maximizing your event attendance. When selecting a live stream webcasting platform, make sure your event will be accessible via smartphones and tablets to capitalize on the opportunity to engage these viewers.

Allow Audience Interaction

Rather than simply talking at your audience, interact with them. Marketers can incorporate interactive features like a live Q&A, online polling, social networking and chat features into their broadcast. This will keep your audience members actively engaged and more likely to attend your next event. Interactive features are also a useful way for companies to collect feedback and insights from key stakeholders.

Maximize Analytics

To get the most out of your live streaming webcast, take advantage of your webcast platform’s analytics to track attendee behavior like questions asked and materials downloaded. Use polls to collect audience feedback on your company, its products and the event. See how long attendees stayed for your event, and if they lost interest at any point. This will provide insight on their interest level for follow-up outreach. And, by linking this data into your company’s CRM such as Salesforce.com or Marketo, hosts can follow up with leads, and turn data into actionable metrics.

By carefully preparing for your event and taking full advantage of today’s webcasting platform capabilities, companies can reach key audiences, drive revenue and win market share. Hosting an upcoming event and aiming for optimum ROI? Broadcast your next live event with award-winning BusyBoy Productions.

Snehal Patel (right) interviews Cinematographer Jon Keng part of the “Art in Motion” live-streaming talks.

On January 29th, a crowd of badge-wearing cinematographers and professional filmmakers gathered into a hip downstairs lounge in the heart of Park City, UT. The purpose? To meet and hear from some of the industry’s most-talented cinematographers with feature films screening at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. The all-day networking and educational event at the ZEISS Lounge featured in-depth conversations about cinematography as well as an opportunity for attendees to check out the latest glass from ZEISS, especially their new high-end cinema lenses, the Supreme Primes.

At the Lounge, filmmakers had a chance to bond with their community over food and drink, and at night, there was a sold-out crowd for the annual ZEISS Party.

ZEISS Sr. Director Rich Schleuning shares the new Supreme Primes with cinematographer Tarin Anderson.

During the day, Cinematographer Talks were hosted by Mr. Snehal Patel, Cine Sales Manager for ZEISS Lenses — and included conversations with Natasha Braier, ASC (joined by Alma Har’el, director of the award-winning Honey Boy), Tarin Anderson (Corporate Animals), Jon Keng (Before You Know It), Stefan Duscio (Sweetheart; Judy and Punch), and Nathan M. Miller (Paddleton).

Mr. Patel remarked, “We were incredibly honored to sit and talk about the art of cinematography with some of the finest Directors of Photography in the business who had films part of Sundance this year. One of the best parts of attending the festival in Park City is having the opportunity to speak with these DPs and learn about how they shot their movies. We were also proud to offer a home where hundreds of people could come by during the day and join us for this fun and educational experience.”

ZEISS’s “Art in Motion” talks were streamed live via Facebook and are now archived and available to view.

Additional interviews with cinematographers were shot at the Zeiss House and will be available soon.  These included conversations with Sundance Film Festival winner Eric Branco (Clemency), Ava Berkovsky (Share), Anna Franseque Solano (The Farewell), Kristy Tully (Raise Hell: The Life and Times of Molly Ivin), Eve Cohen (Ashe ’68), Lowell Meyer (Greener Grass), Khalid Mohtaseb (The Wolf Hour), Julio Macat, ASC (After the Wedding), Award Winning director & producer Jack Paar (BusyBoy Productions / Among Us), Hans Charles (Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men), Matt Porwoll (TIGERLAND), Eric Lin (The Sound of Silence) and Ante Cheng (Ms. Purple).

Cinematographer Hans Charles talks with Snehal Patel about the making of Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men, a Sundance Film Festival selection. Jacqueline Lehr (right) operates camera for this exclusive behind-the-scenes discussion at the ZEISS house.
In addition to the all-day Lounge, ZEISS attended and supported the following strategic partners: Women in Media, Coca-Cola / Regal Film and E-Film Brunch, the ASC Mixer, Newport Beach Film Festival Party and ICG Magazine Mixer.

Should You Optimize Your Facebook Business Page for SEO?

There are a lot of rumors floating around about the appropriate ways to optimize your Facebook Business Page for SEO. Many people today say to make sure you have keywords inside your Facebook URL while others state to have specific keywords in your Facebook document names that reflect your uploaded articles.

Both are accurate, but because searching the Internet can be a drag to discover the very best and easiest ways to optimize your FB company page to obtain the maximum organic traffic from search engines, here are a couple of methods I’ve found that have worked well for me personally.

Let us begin with the MOST important optimizing tip for your FB fan page.

1. Remember Your Brand
Optimizing your FB page for search engines ought to be as simple as a adding few key phrases that reflect your business. Example, my FB business page for SEOBlogger.co is SEO Blogger John Engle. In this case, I am branding myself as a Search Engine Optimization Blogger giving away FREE SEO tips.

You may be tempted to stuff your own Facebook fan page with too many key words like “John’s SEO Blogger Tips, Keyword tips, On-Page Optimization and Social Media Strategies,” but having a title similar to this may hurt your viral expansion with Facebook.

If you look too spammy, even though that is not your goal, your followers and readers might be less likely to engage with your webpage. Supplying value with non self-serving posts and vital advice can bring a quality following.

Tip — The first word within your Facebook Business page name is given the most importance by Google.Optimize Your Facebook Business Page

2. Use Keywords Throughout Your Facebook Page
The same as any other websites from cyberspace, keyword optimization is the most basic kind of onsite SEO.

Be certain to include your site’s address (URL) along with key words with-in your short description. Your Website’s link together with your brief description will be displayed, over the fold and also, on the very front of your FB business page. Your Website’s URL will be readable and easy for readers to go to your Website with just one click.

Assessing your Facebook business page is similar to any other SEO procedure to get a Website. The title of the Facebook page is going to be utilized as the Meta Title Tag along with the short description will be used as the Meta Descriptions Tag.

3. Create a Custom Facebook URL
Do not ever settle for the standard issue Facebook URL that comes with your own Facebook account. After your fan page has received 25 likes, Facebook will provide you the chance to make a custom and one of a kind URL to your small business page.

Because URL’s hold high value to search engines, a unique Facebook site address should be in your bag of search engine optimization tips and techniques to add to your social websites. Facebook vanity URL’s provide the company owner to put their company name or an easy to remember link that can help enhance your brand recognition.

Stop by FaceBook.com/Username to check out some Facebook username options out there. When you land on the site, select your Business Page from the drop-down list. You will then have a box to enter a desirable user-name.

Tip — Much like your site’s meta descriptions tag, you will want to use a brief 160 or less character description for your enterprise page so your entire message shows in the search engine’s snippet.

4. Optimize the Facebook Images
When posting graphic image and photos updates to your FB wall, make the most of the option “Say Something About This…” when Facebook prompts you. The text that you write will become your search engine optimization name for that update.

Occasionally placing keywords inside your photograph descriptions, status updates and communications with other Facebook users, in which it seems natural and makes sense, will help increase your search engine optimization efforts. Adding a link to your organization site in your updates is also a fantastic practice to follow.

Tip — Much like your Facebook business page title, Google will put a higher value from the very first word in your upgrade, so it might be a smart move to think about making that a keyword relevant to your website.

5. Include Your Phone Number and Address On Your Facebook Page
To optimize your page for local searches, make sure that you include your Address, City, State, and Zip code. It may sound surprising, however there are lots of companies with a Facebook business page which don’t include their contact info.

Considering the SEO relevance that Google and other search engines are taking into consideration for social networking networking sites, it is just plain smart to add your phone number and address. Google will place a higher importance on Facebook business pages that give specific information like your business phone number and address.

Remember having your ‘Brand’ indexed for neighborhood search is a vital step to developing your FB page after.

6. Backlink for your Facebook Business Page
The same principle applies to your Facebook Business page, therefore, wherever appropriate and possible, make sure you include a link back to your own fan webpage from other social networking sites, Sites, blogs, etc..

Remove “Archive” title from Search Engine Headers

Remove “Archive” title from Search Engine Headers. Pages and post look outdated with this information in search engine titles.

Okay fellow developers. I searched for hours trying to determine why the word “archive” was showing up in my meta titles on Google and other search engines. This is what I was seeing.

5-20-2014 4-27-23 PM

This makes your content look old and especially when someone is searching your business then it looks really bad.

Here is the solution which is rather simple.

First login to your WordPress website assuming your using Yoast SEO. The issue is only with Yoast SEO plugin and not really an issue. It is Yoast allowing you to customize your settings and these were default settings.  On the left side of you will see the WordPress toolbar, click on SEO which is Yoast.

5-20-2014 4-28-31 PM

On this page you may see the word “archive” combined like this: %%title%% Archives %%page%% %%sep%% %%sitename%%

Change to look like this for whatever Page, Post, Media, etc.

%%title%% %%page%% %%sep%% %%sitename%%

Set “Post Tags” and “Format” to “noindex,” and hide the WordPress SEO Meta Box on these pages (you don’t need it), since you don’t want search engines to index these. They are just more duplicate content bloat that can get you into trouble in a post-Panda world.

Tip: Remove “Archives” from meta title template for Categories & Tags. It just makes you look outdated.

After you make these changes please save settings at the bottom. Now when you go to look at this page it will not show the word “archive”. It will look like this:

BEFORE

5-20-2014 4-31-53 PM

AFTER

5-20-2014 5-14-01 PM

The same can be done with any of the tags, categories, media, etc.

Donating A Car To Charity

A Car Donation Could Help With Your Taxes

You can only deduct a vehicle’s fair market value on your tax return under very specific conditions.

It’s easy to give a car to charity if everything you wish to do is get rid of it. Only call a charity which accepts older vehicles and it’ll tow your pile off. But if you would like to maximize your tax advantages, it’s more complicated. Here’s a walk-through of a few of the concerns, together with the usual proviso that you should talk about these issues with your own tax preparer before you act.

You Have To Itemize Your Returndonating a car to charity
If you want to maintain a car donation to reduce your federal income taxes, you must itemize deductions. You might itemize even if the donated auto is the only deduction, but that’s generally not the best option.

Here’s the math: Suppose you are in the 28 percent tax bracket and the allowable deduction to your vehicle’s contribution is $1,000. That will save you $280 in taxes. If you’re in the 15 percent tax bracket and you get exactly the same $1,000 deduction, it will decrease your earnings by $150.

If the automobile donation is the only deduction, then it is very likely that taking a regular deduction could help save you tens of thousands more dollars in earnings. The only means that donating a car nets you any tax benefit is if you have many deductions and if their total, for example, auto, surpasses the standard deduction. And keep in mind, you can always contribute as much as you want to charities, but the IRS limits just how much you can claim on your tax return.

Only donations to qualified charities can provide a tax deduction for you. A qualified charity is one which the IRS admits as a 501(c)(3) organization. Religious organizations are a special case. They do count as capable associations, but they aren’t needed to file for 501(c)(3) status.
To help you figure out whether a charity is qualified, the simplest thing to do would be to utilize the IRS exempt organizations website, or call the IRS toll-free number: 877-829-5500.

In this situation, neither the buyer nor the seller may be an auto dealer. Both must be private parties.
What complicates the matter for taxpayers is that under current IRS rules, you can only deduct a car’s fair market value under four quite specific conditions:

1. When a charity auctions your car for $500 or less, you can maintain either the fair market value or $500, whichever is less.

2. When the charity plans to make “significant intervening use of the vehicle.” In other words, the charity will use the car in its own work.

3. After the charity intends to make a “material improvement” to the automobile, not just routine maintenance.

4. After the charity gives or sells the vehicle to a needy individual at a price significantly below fair market value.donate car to chairty

Determining Fair Market Value
Edmunds can help you determine your vehicle’s fair market value with its Appraise Your Car calculator. Input the car’s year, make and model, in addition to such information as trim degree, mileage and condition. By looking at the private-party price, you’ll get a precise idea of what your vehicle is worth.

Note the caution from IRS Publication 4303: “Should you use a vehicle pricing guide to determine fair market value, make confident that the sales price listed is to get a car that is exactly the exact same make, model and year, sold in the exact same condition, and with the same or substantially similar options or accessories as your car or truck.”

Obtaining Fair Market Value Is Rare
It’s not realistic to expect that your car will fulfill one of the strict fair market value requirements. Only about 5 percent of donated vehicles are suitable for usage by charity recipients. About a third of donated cars are junked, and the rest are auctioned off.

So unless your vehicle is in good or excellent condition, it will most likely be sold in auction or into an automobile salvage yard. And note that this price isn’t necessarily something you’ll know when you give the automobile, or even before the upcoming tax-filing time, since an organization has up to three years to sell your car.

How Auto Dealers Are Effectively Using Social Media in 2019

Even while the average person connects so much with their car, it’s not the hidden meaning or connotations that get people engaged on social media; it’s the physical cars. “It’s the cars themselves that drive the most social buzz and excitement,” said Rob Milne, the North American Director of Marketing Operations for Mazda. “When we get into some of the more human aspects, there’s a little less interest. When we’re showcasing the product, the technology, photos of our engines – that’s when people get excited.”

Best Use of Social Media Among Car Brands

So, how are car brands and auto manufacturers getting people excited on social media? Let’s take a look at some of the top examples and which brands are getting it right:

  • Dodge. After winning a Shorty Award for their 2013 Dart Registry campaign, it’s safe to say that Doge has a firm grip on what works. They used social media sites to grow their marketing campaign, which allowed people to pick the features they wanted on their Dart and then let friends and family members sponsor/fund parts. It was a mix between a traditional wedding registry and crowdfunding. The social media component that made the campaign so successful worked in conjunction with birthdays. If a person was listed in the Dart Registry, people who posted a birthday note on their wall were then reminded that it’s easy to fund a part of their car as a gift. Thousands signed up for a Dart Registry and the campaign is now frequently used as a marketing case study.
  • BMW. With a Facebook fan page that has more than 18.5 million likes, it’s difficult to argue with BMW. Though their efforts may look fairly standard, it’s clear they’re doing something right. The question is: What are they doing to average right aroundautomotive social media

25,000 likes and hundreds of shares per post? Is it fueled by the brand alone? The company actually does very little to engage or interact with fans, so it’s bit of an anomaly in terms of textbook social media strategy. However, whatever they’re doing is working. Keep an eye on these guys and you may be able to learn something.

  • Mini. Mini’s NOT NORMAL campaign was a major hit in 2014. It won multiple industry awards and allowed the brand to connect with an entirely new audience. Mini simply asked people to upload images and videos to Tumblr or to share with the hashtag #MININOTNORMAL. They then used their favorites as part of their campaign. Within six weeks, 230,000 people engaged with the campaign on social media, 2,217 pieces of content were shared, nearly 30,000 new followers and fans were recruited, and 3,853 people visited the campaign hub to look for a new Mini.

3 Takeaways Every Industry Can Use

Regardless of whether you work with a car brand or not, there are social media marketing takeaways for businesses in every industry. Here are three of the best ones:

  • Tell a story. The single most consistent thread throughout every successful car brand social media campaign is storytelling through visuals. It’s not enough to simply post content – it needs to resonate with the audience. The use of videos and stunning images allows brands to tell ongoing stories that encourage followers to come back for more. If you’re not storytelling on social media, it’s time to rethink your strategy.
  • Let customers have a say. Mini’s NOT NORMAL and Dodge’s Dart Registry campaigns are perfect examples of how to engage with followers – by letting them have a say. People want to interact with content – not simply consume it. By developing interactive campaigns with social components, you can get more people active and involved.
  • Build two-way communities. While BMW may get away with it because of brand power and compelling visuals, it’s important to remember that social business pages are designed to be two-way communities. On the brand side, this requires you to ask questions, answer inquiries, and address issues. Don’t just sit back and watch. This is your chance to tear down the corporate curtain and humanize your brand.

The Power of Social Media

It’s incredible to look back over the past decade and see how far social networking has come. Just when you think it’s reached its peak or will start to even out, a new site comes along or an existing one does something to reignite the flame. While the power of social media will always lie in the person-to-person connections between users, it’s impossible to forget about how these networks are being monetized and sustained by successful brands and advertisers.  Plenty of industries are successful at it, but perhaps none more than the auto industry.
